3DUXDESIGN BEARDSLEY ZOO, REIMAGINED
What are three things kids love? Animals, building and playing with cardboard! In this Project-Based Learning STEAM experience, students have an opportunity to learn as they reimagine, design and build models for the new and improved world-famous Beardsley Zoo. Their job will be to create new enclosures that will delight both animals and visitors! This project is ideal for grades k-8
The Zoo Challenge Cards
You can print challenge cards, worksheets and student resources here. For students at home, we recommend the Go-Pack. For in-school and enrichment programs, the GOBOX-Classroom Set is designed for 25 students.
Life science, engineering, ELA and optional technology and math extensions
- k-2 for basic challenge or 3-5 with extensions for deeper learning
- Expect each zoo enclosure design to take 45 minutes - 3 hours, depending on depth of research. See facilitator guide for details.
- Each challenge card includes animal fun-facts, a simple-machine engineering project, and a simple math challenge.
- Use the guide to find everything your students will need to research zoo design, specifics about their animal and the simple machine.
- Add the "Snack Shack" challenge for a fun entrepreneurial-themed extension as students design their own shop to help support the zoo.
- Print the animal cards for students to cut out, decorate and fold their animals to support more fine motor and 3D spatial thinking.
